Compare measurements with something you own

Size labels vary across brands and garments. Choose a similar item you already like, lay it flat, and compare the measurements with the listing. For a top, chest width and length are useful starting points; for trousers, look for waist, rise, and inseam.

Check how the seller measured each dimension. A flat waist measurement and a full waist circumference are different numbers. If the listing only gives a size label, ask for the measurements you need before buying.

Look beyond the first photo

Review the front, back, seams, cuffs, closures, and care label. Check for disclosed stains, pilling, repairs, missing buttons, and worn areas. Photos taken in different lighting can make color comparisons difficult, so ask if a particular shade matters.

Read the written condition description alongside the pictures. “Good condition” can mean different things to different people. A specific description of wear is more useful than a broad adjective.

Check the complete cost and return terms

Include shipping in your comparison and read the seller’s return terms. A low item price may not represent the lowest total cost. If you are combining items from a seller, check what the checkout actually offers rather than assuming shipping will be combined.

Keep questions and purchase communication within the marketplace. Never send payment credentials or move a transaction to an unfamiliar external link to secure a discount. Once the item arrives, compare it with the listing and follow its care instructions. A small measurement check before checkout can be more useful than a long search by size label alone.
