Create and reuse your own shipping packages

Save named package dimensions, choose the right measurement units, and reuse the package on product shipping forms.

The short answer: Open Shipping Packages, create a named package with length, width, height, and units, then select it when editing a product shipping setup. Packages describe the container; shipping profiles describe destination and rate rules.

Choose the right tool

Separate a package from a shipping profile

A package stores reusable box dimensions and units. A shipping profile groups fulfillment destinations and rates. Product weight, shop origin, stock, and buyer destination remain separate inputs; a package alone does not make a shipping option available.

Shared marketplace packages can appear alongside your seller packages. You can manage packages owned by your seller account; the marketplace maintains shared records. Name your packages so staff can choose the intended box without guessing.

Create

Measure and save a package

  1. 1

    Measure the actual container

Record length, width, and height in one consistent unit. Use realistic packed dimensions for the shipping workflow.

  2. 2

    Open Shipping Packages

Use the seller shipping navigation and open the create package form when available.

  3. 3

    Enter the package details

Give it a descriptive name, enter positive length, width, and height, and select the matching unit.

  4. 4

    Save and confirm

Check the saved name and dimensions in the list. If the form says custom packages are still being enabled, wait for the marketplace update rather than reusing inaccurate shared data.

Assign

Select the package for the product

Open the product shipping form and choose the saved package. Verify the product weight, profile assignment, allowed fulfillment type, and origin as well. Use the profile guide to check destinations and rates.

Review a representative checkout destination before relying on a shipping estimate. A connected carrier can apply its own service restrictions; a locally saved package is not evidence that a live carrier connection has been tested.

Maintain

Update packages without leaving products unassigned

  • Edit only packages owned by the current seller.
  • Review products using a package before changing its dimensions.
  • A package referenced by an active catalog product cannot be deleted; choose another package on the product first.
  • If shipping remains unavailable, check the profile, destination, weight, origin, and service status in addition to dimensions.
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Does a package set the customer shipping price?

No. Its dimensions are one input. Shipping profiles, configured services, product data, and destination determine the available rates.
