How to add products and manage inventory

Create accurate EzBuyCo seller listings with catalog matching, titles, descriptions, images, options, SKUs, prices, stock, conditions, fulfillment, and SEO-ready product data.

The short answer: Match the exact marketplace catalog product when one exists, create or request a catalog record when necessary, then publish a seller offer with accurate options, SKU, price, stock, condition, images, availability, tax, and fulfillment data.

Data model

Understand catalog products and seller offers

A catalog product describes the shared item: name, brand, category, model, options, specifications, and core media. A seller offer describes what your shop is actually selling: SKU, price, quantity, condition, availability, shipping, and shop-specific details.

Join an existing catalog product only when it is an exact match. Attaching inventory to the wrong model or option creates search problems, returns, and customer distrust. If custom catalog creation requires approval, submit a complete product request rather than forcing a near match.

Listing workflow

Create a complete seller listing

  1. 1

    Search the catalog first

Use identifiers, brand, model, title, or barcode to find an exact existing item.

  2. 2

Choose or request the catalog product

Verify category, brand, specifications, options, and product type.

  3. 3

    Enter seller-specific data

Add SKU, price, cost when used internally, quantity, availability, condition, and fulfillment.

  4. 4

Add useful media and language content

Use clear, accurate images and original customer-facing copy.

  5. 5

    Preview and publish

Check the public page, option selection, price, stock, shipping estimate, and shop attribution.

Search visibility

Write product data for people and search engines

Use the words a qualified buyer needs to identify the exact item, but keep the title readable. A useful title often combines product type, brand, model, defining attribute, and option without repeating promotional phrases.

Descriptions should explain material, dimensions, compatibility, use, included items, care, condition, and limitations. Original, specific copy gives search engines and buyers more value than copied manufacturer text or a list of keywords.

  • Use one canonical product concept per listing.
  • Choose the most specific accurate category.
  • Complete structured attributes and specifications instead of hiding facts in prose.
  • Use descriptive image alt context through accurate catalog and file labeling where supported.
  • Avoid misleading availability, condition, brand, or compatibility claims.
Stock control

Keep inventory synchronized with reality

Enable inventory tracking for finite physical stock and assign quantity to the exact seller product or variant. If warehouse stock, barcode scanning, bulk import, Shopify, Square, or another connector is enabled, define which system is authoritative before updating the same quantity in multiple places.

Reserved or temporarily held stock can differ from the visible on-hand number during checkout activity. Investigate the inventory ledger and active orders before making a large corrective adjustment.

SignalSeller action
Low stockReplenish, lower available quantity, or pause the offer before overselling.
Out of stockConfirm all variants and connected sources, then restock or leave unavailable.
Wrong option quantityCorrect the specific variant rather than the parent product total.
Connector mismatchIdentify the source of truth and review sync errors before manual bulk edits.
Pricing

Price with fees and fulfillment in mind

A sustainable selling price covers product cost, EzBuyCo’s 5% marketplace commission, the 2.9% transaction fee, packaging, fulfillment support, expected returns, promotions, and required taxes. Read the seller fee guide before setting margin targets.

Featured placement can use an additional featured commission or bid where enabled. That promotional amount is separate from the standard marketplace commission and should be evaluated against incremental sales, not just impressions.

Before publishing

Run a listing quality check

  • Exact catalog match, brand, model, category, and product type.
  • Unique SKU or barcode mapping and correct option combinations.
  • Current price, quantity, availability date, and condition.
  • Clear images showing the actual product or accurate catalog item.
  • Shipping, pickup, and package settings appropriate for the item; inherited seller return/cancellation policy and marketplace-managed tax classification.
  • Public product page tested on desktop and mobile.
Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Should a seller create a new catalog product for every offer?

No. Join the existing catalog product when it is an exact match, then add the seller-specific offer data.

What is the difference between a catalog product and seller inventory?

The catalog describes the shared item; seller inventory describes your shop’s SKU, price, quantity, condition, availability, and fulfillment.

Does a featured commission replace the 5% marketplace commission?

No. A featured placement bid is an additional promotional setting when enabled; it does not replace the standard marketplace commission.
